Katherine Fletcher MP for South Ribble asked the Minister for Prisons to withdraw the planning inspectorate appeal for the third prison in Ulnes Walton and reconsider their plans.
Commenting Katherine Fletcher MP said:
“Today, I asked the Minister of State for Prisons to withdraw the planning inspectorate appeal.
Residents and councillors have made clear that the impact on the local area of a third prison will be massive, not least because there is no sufficient road infrastructure and no public transport solution to the site.
Councillors have objected to this, and my own survey has shown that there is overwhelming opposition from residents.
The Minister would not commit to a further decision at this time, but I have made it clear that public opinion is against the plans, and I will be following up and continuing to support my constituents on this issue.”
