Travelling by public transport is becoming easier and cheaper. Bus fares have been capped, bus services are being enhanced and journey information is improving as well.
Cheaper bus fares
• Local bus fares are now capped at £2, making transportation more affordable for all.
• A £1 after 7pm ticket has been introduced to encourage evening travel and support the economy.
• The introduction of the Weekender ticket allows for a complimentary Sunday journey with the purchase of a Saturday ticket.
Service enhancements
• Ongoing efforts are dedicated to improving existing services while introducing new ones.
• The frequency of buses between Preston, Longton, and Tarleton has doubled, now operating every half hour, up from hourly.
• Bus services in South Ribble and Chorley are being reviewed and local people have been involved with potential proposals to introduce new services, making more journeys possible by bus.
Infrastructure upgrades
• A number of discussions are underway to improve traffic flow for buses and upgrade bus stops.
Information accessibility
• The installation of Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) systems on buses will enable real-time tracking of bus locations through a dedicated app. This advancement will ensure accurate updates. At the moment, information comes from the bus timetable and is not accurate if the bus is delayed.
It’s great to hear about the plans for these public transport improvements. They are crucial for local levelling up.
