Following the Government’s commitment to increase the production and distribution of clean energy in the UK, including expanding on offshore wind farms off the Lancashire coast; the National Grid has announced that Penwortham is going to be a part of the newly expanded National Grid, which is needed to get this clean, homegrown, secure energy onshore.
In these proposals, Penwortham is going to play a key role in powering the whole country from new and future windfarms as part of the nationwide effort for energy security in the wake of Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.
This week, Katherine Fletcher MP met with National Grid representatives in Parliament. These high level pans will bring jobs and infrastructure to South Ribble, and was reassured that the National Grid also confirmed that these proposals have been designed so that they will not disrupt the beautiful Ribble Estuary National Nature Reserve and our important tidal marsh environment.
Commenting, Katherine Fletcher MP said:
“I want to see South Ribble be part of the UK’s own power production, and the National Grid’s substation at Penwortham will put us on the map at the heart of the future of Britain’s electricity.
"With jobs, new infrastructure and, importantly for me, as a conservationist preserving our precious natural environment, this is great news for everyone in Penwortham and across South Ribble.”
