Katherine Fletcher has met with the principal of Runshaw College Clare Russell in Westminster to discuss vocational courses like T Levels and apprenticeships.
Clare was in the capital recently to attend the Tertiary Colleges Conference where college principals met with an education minister and MPs to discuss a range of issues and policies around level 3 qualifications and further education funding.
The government continues to invest in further education by improving buildings and Runshaw recently benefitted from £3 million of government funding to build the new Buttermere Building.
“It was a pleasure to catch up with Clare and speak about the excellent work Runshaw continues to do in our community to train young people for the careers they want and to drive through the government’s continued focus on vocational qualifications and apprenticeships.
“Not everyone wants or can go to university and with a skills shortage in many sectors such as the UK's developing green industries, it is vitally important we have a well-trained workforce.
“Runshaw is doing that very well and I look forward to visiting soon for a further update.”
Clare said: “It was a privilege to visit Katherine in Westminster, following the Tertiary Colleges Group Conference.
“The college principals enjoyed very productive discussions with the minister and a range of MPs about Level 3 qualifications reform, T Levels, apprenticeships and further education funding.
“These close working relationships between the sector and government will help ensure the success of future policy.”
Katherine is a regular visitor to and supporter of the college. In March the Social Science department at Runshaw hosted its annual Question Time where our students had the opportunity to quiz Katherine and other politicians.
