🚀 Exciting news for the North West Nuclear Arc! ☢
I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Nuclear Minister Andrew Bowie and other MPs to chat about the Government’s roadmap for nuclear energy. Here’s what we discussed:
💷 The Government is investing up to £300 million for UK production of high-assay low enriched uranium (HALEU) fuel in the North West. This means Springfields just over the river in the Fylde will be developing this crucial fuel, creating jobs and boosting investment in Lancashire.
👩🔬 Access to apprenticeships for people in South Ribble will be key, offering opportunities in the design, build, and operation of nuclear energy generation and fuel production.
🌍 With the goal of reaching 24GW of nuclear energy by 2050 (25% of the country’s needs), this roadmap emphasises reliable, low-emission energy and energy security.
💡 Plans also include doubling the civil and defence nuclear workforce over the next 20 years, creating around 80,000 skilled jobs across the UK.
🏭 Streamlining the development of new power stations and introducing smarter regulations are part of the strategy to speed up the process of delivering new nuclear power.
Exciting times ahead. I'll keep you all posted.
