June 6th 1944, 79 years ago today, was a momentous day for the world, for the UK and for Lancashire. 288 officers and soldiers of the 1st Battalion The South Lancashire Regiment sacrificed their lives on D Day and in the subsequent campaign to free Europe. The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, their modern day successors are still a vital part of our community in South Ribble.
