Tackling crime in South Ribble
Lancashire Police is one of the best forces in the country. It was interesting to visit the control room and meet the team who look after South Ribble.
The team respond to 999 and 101 calls and make sure that urgent matters are dealt with quickly.
I was surprised to learn that 1 in 5 999 calls are non-emergency calls and 38% of 101 calls are for non-police matters.
The team want to get the message out there about when to call each of the numbers.
Call 999 if:
• a serious offence is in progress or has just been committed
• someone is in immediate danger or harm
• property is in danger of being damaged
• a serious disruption to the public is likely
Call 101 if:
You want to talk to your local police officer, get crime prevention advice or report a crime that does not need an emergency response.
