The nerdy side of me was in my element when I was given a tour of the National Grid’s Penwortham substation by Ash, Steve and Tom. It was fascinating to learn more about the workings of the substation and how energy in the area connects.
We talked about the exciting roles that exist within this industry and the apprenticeships that they offer. Apprentices can join at 16 or 18 and join a great programme with a good salary and a car and opportunities exist locally, which is great for the Northern Powerhouse.
