Don’t forget to nominate an inspirational woman from the constituency to join me at a special event at Number 10. You can email your nominations to me at [email protected] until Friday 22nd March. Let’s celebrate the incredible women in our community.
Speaking of women, the Government are working hard to improve the lives of women and girls. Here are just some of the initiatives that have been introduced.
Women’s health
The first ever Women’s Health Strategy addresses the gender health gap. Amongst other things, this focuses on making HRT drugs more affordable, improving care for gynaecological conditions, improving pregnancy care and establishing Women’s Health hubs.
Childcare
30 hours of free childcare per week is being introduced for kids aged nine months to four years, worth £6,500 per year per child. This is fantastic news and will really help women to return to the workplace after having children.
Keeping women safe
Women should be able to live their lives without fear of violence. I’m so pleased to see that this issue is being tackled by:
• £125 million being invested in practical measures like street lighting to ensure women and girls feel safer at night.
• The UK’s first government-funded 24/7 support service, operated by Rape Crisis England and Wales.
• A tough new Domestic Abuse Act to strengthen protection for victims.
