Football is nothing without its fans 
We have both Preston North End Football Club and Blackburn Rovers on our doorstep. I’m delighted that legislation has been introduced to create an Independent Football Regulator. This is a historic moment for football which will put the fans of our much-loved teams first by:
Making sure they are consulted on matters impacting club strategy and heritage, and giving them a say in the future direction of the club. This means owners will no longer be able to change a club’s identity without fan consent.
Introducing a licensing scheme for the owners of football clubs. This will protect fans from rogue football owners by ensuring those who have previously done harm to football clubs cannot continue to do so.
Protecting the competitions and leagues that have made our football the best in the world by blocking clubs from joining breakaway leagues.
